How to Measure For Exterior Shutters
For Composite Wood Shutters
What You’ll Need Before Measuring

Tape Measure

Pen and Paper

Ladder (if necessary)
Standard Windows
Step 1: Measure The Width of Your Window
For accurately sized shutters, start by measuring the width of your window. We recommend measuring the window opening rather than including any trim detail around each window. Always measure the width at the top of the window and the bottom of the window. Record the SMALLER of the two measurements.
The rule of thumb is that each shutter should be half the width of your window.
Step 2: Measure The Height of Your Window
Much like Step 1, record the height of each window within the window trim. Always measure the height at the left side and then the right side of the window. Record the SMALLER of the two measurements.
You want the shutters to look as though they could close inside the window opening.
